When One Dream Ends, How Do We Find Another?

You’ve seen them in a carpenter’s hand before but have you ever witnessed what happens when a musician gets ahold of a saw?! Not long after an event ended one life-long dream, the musical saw stole this dancer’s heart. With its ethereal notes and otherworldly sounds, this unusual instrument will have you reconsidering all that you’re capable of in life, too!

Whether you’re working towards a certain dream or feeling like you’re starting all over again right now, the story of the Saw Lady—a.k.a. Natalia Paruz—will help you find possibilities in the most unusual places!

Cheerful Persistence

Growing up, all that Natalia wanted to do was be a dancer. That was her dream, the goal that kept pushing her forward. But one day, as she was crossing the street, a taxi cab collided with her and all those dreams of dancing went down with her.

After her recovery from the accident, a chance encounter introduced her to the mysterious, mind-bending, almost-angelic sounds that a regular ol’ carpenter’s saw can make. Upon seeing this new instrument, something exciting started bubbling inside of Natalia’s heart.

For over two decades now, Natalia has been introducing the musical saw to thousands, by working not only with big picture studios and composers, but by bringing the music directly to the people by performing in subways! 1

To meet Natalia and hear her play this magical instrument herself, check out this video from The Back of the Busk. Just wait until you see everyone’s faces as they watch her!

Forget your limitations!

Just because one dream is over, doesn’t mean another, great one won’t come your way.

I’m sure that since March of 2020, life looks a whole lot different for a lot of us. The global pandemic has forced many of us to change our daily lives completely, adjusting what we love and need to do in order to stay safe.

Dreams have either been put on hold, ended, or been reinvented into something else.

Which, at face value, doesn’t sound all that great, I suppose. But think of it this way: going into this new year, 9 months since the shutdown, we now have the unique chance to reimagine everything that we’re capable of and what we’re truly interested in. Maybe you head out to the shed and grab a carpenter’s saw and try your hand at making these beautiful sounds, or perhaps, you try your hand at cycling, or building miniature objects!

Don’t limit yourself by what you’ve done before. Let that feeling—you know, the one Natalia was talking about in the video—lead you towards your next step.

The beauty of the down period that comes after the rug has been pulled out from under us is that it gives us a moment to pause and think about what we truly want.

Perhaps these next articles can help you find out what you’d like to try?
