Life gets busy, and oftentimes we tend to forgo variety and pleasure in place of something fast and easy. But today, my dear friend, we’re inviting you to reinvent the way you think about food! Let’s rediscover the exhilaration that comes with tasting the unknown and savoring the moment, starting with finger limes!

The first bite of real food that you ever enjoyed was probably something simple, like the sweet mush of a ripe banana or peas. Then, you moved up to try the delightful crunch of dry cereal scattered on a shatter-proof plastic plate. And eventually, you grew—and your tastes evolved, too. You graduated to trying pizza, then guacamole, and perhaps even squid! Whether or not you enjoyed every new taste, each stage of this journey held one factor in common: the excitement of trying new things!

But… have you ever tried a Finger Lime?

Let’s try something new together!

Picture yourself sitting down at an elegant outdoor cafe. You’ve set out to try something new today, and your intentions are about to be rewarded.

Placed in front of you is a dish topped with tiny jewel-like beads that capture the sunlight in both their appearance and their exquisite taste! As these delicate citrus pearls dance along your tongue, a stream of events flash through your mind. Where did these delicious bits of wonder come from? How did they get to my plate?! What magic had to happen for me to be able to enjoy them today? Well, you’re about to find out! Join us for a culinary expedition that will leave you savoring each tasty morsel, inside and outside of the kitchen!

If you’ve ever tried caviar and didn’t care for its briny charisma, you can rest easy.  The caviar we are about to experience is not like that of traditional caviar, at all! No, these small flavorful pearls grow on trees.

This pretty caviar we are introducing to you today comes from a rare fruit native to Australia 1! (Part of the reason why this citrus is so special is that it can only be grown in regions that receive over 300 days of sun a year.)

So, we’re going to get a taste for this culinary delicacy through the eyes of one of our favorite creators, Great Big Story! We’re headed to Europe, where nestled in a particularly sunny part of France, lives a lovely young couple who fell in love with a rare fruit called the finger lime!

‌Now, that was just an appetizer when it comes to the wonderful library of videos that Great Big Story has to offer. Check out their Youtube channel for more delectable videos!

You can see joy light up the faces of the patrons in that video, right away!

When those itty bitty juice capsules burst in their mouth, they knew this wasn’t an average bite! Etinee and Perrine only sell to local chefs and restaurants, but if you’ve discovered a newfound zest for experimentation and want to try finger limes for yourself, you can order them online! Full disclosure though, finger limes are the most expensive citrus fruit in the world, on average costing $108.00 per pound! 3

‌Savoring the Moment

We’ve all had a moment when we tried to make the last forkful of something last. There’s a reason why people who love each other always insist that the other person gets the last bite of shared cake! All too often we are in such a hurry that we tend to just shovel our food down. (No judgment here, I too have been known to scarf a cheeseburger while driving!) But, when we pause to be present, we can make the experience last longer and savor the absolute thrill that it is to be a human with taste buds!

Taking a break to acknowledge these sprinkles of joy in our daily lives might even make it easier to cope with the challenges we face. They serve as a gentle reminder when times are tough, that the world isn’t all bad after all!

On a Quest for the Best

Have you ever traveled an absurd distance to get your hands on your favorite food? And if so, what is it about that food that makes it so amazing? Maybe you feel nostalgic about the first time you tried it, maybe it is extremely seasonal and can only be enjoyed for a short amount of time. Whatever your reason may be, there is something very special about those moments, and that very first bite, that changed your appetite forever.
