There’s wonder hiding behind those goat yoga classes, their startling calls, and their intriguing impulse to hop onto pretty much everything. So, here’s a bit of wonder 101 for you to explore with the animal who has a permanent case of the jumping munchies!

What would we get if we celebrated the wonder behind the ordinary things in our world? Maybe, our best innovations and insights could come from what’s already right under our noses! Take the humble goat for example.

We’re not kid-ding around here. This article will satisfy all of your goat needs — with some cuteness, food for thought, and a jump into a unique way they can help us out with one of our bigger, annoying problems. You’re sure to be delighted to pass this information on to your own herd after this!

Let’s start with a baby goat pajama party that leads to some fascinating answers to the question, “Why?”

I took the liberty of diving into the internet rabbit hole of goat compilations and videos to find one that might be pure fun and hint at all the things we have to be awestruck about, once we know more. I’m happy to report that after making my way through this arduous task, dodging cute babies and puppies left and right, I stumbled upon a party. And it’s arguably the best party.

Take a peek at the kind of soirée Sunflower Farm Creamery in Cumberland, Maine throws! (Highly, highly, suggest that you hang around for the whole party but if you want to hop around the vid, make sure you take the time to meet a few special guests at the end!)

Sunflower Farm Creamery appears to be a place with a lot of bursting smiles! Just take a moment to pop over to their website to read the description of their self-serve shop (where you can buy various cheeses and sweet treats like fudge and caramel). There’s fundamental goodness and gratitude there that is very comforting to know still exists. It makes me want to hop in my car and spend a few moments relaxing with their herd!

But until then, I guess I’ll just have to settle for their LIVE GOAT CAM! Click here to check out what these cuties are up to on their beautiful farm, meet all the expected mamas, and stay tuned for the arrival of their young. You can stay up to date by following Sunflower Farm Creamery on Facebook (you can bet I’ve already liked them). And you can help support the feed and care of their animals by watching more of the charming videos on their YouTube channel and subscribing!

Okay, now let’s learn about these jumping beans.

What’s our history with goats? How do they impact our lives? How do they even… goat?

This awesome video from Animalogic gives us all a great overview of these creatures. From their impressive memory, a curse, the origins of the term “scapegoat”, their messy trip to the Galapagos Islands, and their origins in our lives, you’re sure to find some fun information to yell from the rooftops — or, well, maybe the top of the closest tree, fence, or… pig?

See what you discover:

You can find more great videos all about our natural world and the animals that inhabit it over on Animalogic’s Youtube channel! And stay up to date with all of their content by subscribing, or following them on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

Invasive species are nothing compared to a goats appetite!

As a result of our frequent travels and the desire for a “taste of home” wherever we landed, humans have introduced non-native species. Everything from wild hogs to wild grass has rocked native ecosystems. And while goats may not be able to do much about the pigs (other than stand on them) they do have a taste for grass.

Their voracious appetites can help clean out non-native plants that invade our yards, gardens and pastures, and make room for native species to grow! (Take a look at this story.) The video below is an example of the impact they can have. Take a look at the before and after sections of this pasture to see what kind of work goats can do!

The more that we learn about animals, the more progress we can make.

Given that every creature on the planet has specific skills, when we study them, we can tap into them to improve our own systems. With this in mind, if we want to protect the planet from its current plight, then teaming up with its other inhabitants may be our best step forward!

“How it is that animals understand things I do not know, but it is certain that they do understand. Perhaps there is a language which is not made of words and everything in the world understands it. Perhaps there is a soul hidden in everything and it can always speak, without even making a sound, to another soul.”

― Frances Hodgson Burnett
