Alright, let’s rip the band-aid off: today we’re talking climate change. Now, we can all fight over what got us here, the best way to stop climate change or hide under our beds about rising sea levels, but I’m here to talk about an important question:
“Why should I care?”
Yes, it’s a bit selfish to want to know what will happen to me, but it’s important. In the face of big scary numbers, people in politics yelling about who’s right and who is wrong, it’s easy to just put your hands in the air and walk away.
So, friends, today we are turning to someone who’s going to show us, first hand, what will happen when our planet gets a little toastier: comedian Aparna Nancherla.

Aparna is like many of us when it comes to the science climate change or its impacts: we find it tough to care as much as we should. It’s all either too overwhelming, too boring, or too scary. So why not run an experiment? What would a weekend be like if we were living in a world that was four degrees Celsius warmer?
It’s just four degrees warmer, it can’t have that big of an impact. Right?
Let’s follow Aparna though an average Saturday and find out what the hype is all about. Here’s the hilarious video from WIRED that takes us along for the ride as Aparna tries to survive a simple Saturday.

It’s okay to feel overwhelmed!
This stuff is overwhelming, and, frankly, scary. But like so many things, sticking our heads in the sand and avoiding the problems doesn’t help. But there are two things to keep in mind that just might:
- You can do the little things (and don’t have to always do them perfectly) and they DO have an impact.
Most people can’t live the perfect, eco-friendly life, but we can all do little things that have a big impact. Reducing the number of plastics we use is a great place to start!
- Everything isn’t all bad!If we believe things can’t change, we won’t innovate for a better future. We are in an era where innovators are making remarkable progress. Where the young thought leaders of tomorrow are pushing us forward. We’ve even worked to bring back demolished ecosystems from the brink of extinction.
So, I hope we’re leaving you today to feel a little more knowledgeable and empowered. Speaking of empowered, check out how cool Sam and I look after getting our Final Straw reusable, collapsable straws! (They come with their own little carrying case you can attach to your keys and a little cleaning squeegee!) They are a great place to start if you want to try reducing your plastic waste a little!

Yes, the future can seem unsettling but if we work to support and look for solutions that can make a positive impact we can influence the trajectory of the planet’s and our own health.
Stay beautiful & keep laughing!
