Have you ever watched something and found yourself immediately spellbound?
For a moment, your reality is suspended; your attention solely focused on the spectacle in front of you. It’s a rare reaction saved for the most captivating experiences. Today, we’re exploring one of these experiences!
On this installment of Saturdays Around the World, we are heading to Tbilisi, Georgia. While this city is home to many treasures, we at Ever Widening Circles have been captivated by one in particular: the Sukhishvili Georgian National Ballet.
Now, before you turn away, this is ballet as you have probably never seen it performed before. Sukhishvili dancers are masters of traditional Georgian national dancing, an art form that combines athleticism, grace, and elaborate costuming into a spectacle to behold.
To introduce us to the Georgian National Ballet, we bring you a wonderful piece from one of our favorite channels, Great Big Story.
What an incredible display of artistry and athleticism — a combination we so rarely take time to admire!
Watching the company, I am reminded of the important role artistic traditions play in keeping history alive. They act as a means of storytelling, of passing on history. Moreover, when they captivate those beyond the cultures they speak for, artistic traditions give us all the opportunity to learn and to stand in awe of our marvelous cultural diversity.
The company tours the world, so if you want to see them in person, take a moment to look at their tour schedule, and see if they are headed to your area!
When we are spellbound by the culture of another, what does it say about our deep commonalities? What threads of human connection are we finding?
Stay beautiful & keep laughing!
