Do you ever stumble across something so cool you think about it almost daily? Have you ever heard about leather made from mushrooms?

Today, I am going to share with you a video that I have thought about at least a few times a week since watching it, and it revolves around fungi!

Imagine a world where everything from designer handbags to bricks, to furniture, were grown using fungi! It sounds strange, but a fungi filled future is here! And it’s pretty incredible!

The company MycoWorks is using fungi to turn agricultural byproducts, like sawdust and corn cobs, into beautiful alternatives to leather, building materials, and even furniture.

Endless possibility surrounds this concept. And they are just beginning to scratch the surface of what is possible with this technology. (Can you call fungi a technology?)

Take a look at this fantastic video about the future of leather made from mushrooms from SciFri about MycoWorks!

What an incredible concept!

Think of all the possibility waiting to be tapped! There are endless uses for this idea, and I, for one, am excited by the idea of a fungi-filled future!

My ultimate test for any new idea or concept is to ask, “Is it novel? And is it useful?” If the answer to both those questions is “Yes” then we are witnessing something that will change the future. MycoWorks has flitted through my mind so many times since I first saw this video back in November and I think that is, in part, because it passes the novel/useful question with flying colors.

We have a bright future to look forward to as innovation takes us into uncharted territory. As traditional barriers begin to fall, and disciplines once held in opposition come together there is a lot to look forward to!

Stay beautiful & keep laughing!
