Painting with Light

What happens when you combine polar night, a long exposure camera, and light with unbridled creativity?

Welcome to the world of light painting.

This art form creates amazing images (like the one above) that turn landscapes into canvases. Sometimes creating otherworldly scenes.

The remarkable light painter Hannu Huhtamo is a master at his craft. He creates ethereal sculptures of light that bend the mind and reframe the darker corners of our world.

His work is filled with a magic and wonder that is hard to put into words.

Here is a little glimpse of his remarkable work from Great Big Story.

Looking at Huhtamo’s work I am reminded of how wonderfully boundless the human imagination can be. Using simple tools, he can transform landscapes and create an atmosphere that goes beyond wonder.

Perhaps what touches a chord in me about light painting are the infinite doors of possibility it opens up. In real time we can never see the painting come to life, and yet, simply by pushing the bounds of technology we are allowed a remarkable glimpse into our world.

To see the world as an artist is to see the world in terms of limitless possibility. To look at the many blank canvases of the world and project something entirely new upon it.

We live in an amazing world, and sometimes it helps to be reminded of that fact by art that inspires us to reimagine our surroundings and fully appreciate them.

Stay beautiful & keep laughing!
