Human ingenuity and creativity really are something to marvel at! When combined they create boundless, captivating possibility.

Let’s start simply today, without a lot of introduction.

Suffice to say, this video from a great channel we recently discovered, Wintergatan, combines the wonders of a player piano, a one-man band, and a Rube Goldberg machine using 2000 marbles and a heck of a lot of creativity…behold, the marble machine!

The Magic Behind the Machine

I saw this video floating around Facebook at the beginning of the year and thought it was super cool, but left my wonder there. “How neat!” I thought and moved on. Then, this video came back around to me and I decided to do a little more digging on this remarkable instrument and the people behind it.

The Marble Machine was built by Martin Molin of the Swedish band Wintergatan. They have a great YouTube channel featuring their music and the other music machines they have designed and built which is well worth a look!

Some of their coolest videos there are the behind the scenes look at how the Marble Machine works!

The amount of thought, work, trial, and error, that went into this remarkable instrument is really quite astounding. Whether or not you are technically minded this is really a joy to watch! So again with Wintergatan, let’s take a look…

If you want to dive into a little more detail I really suggest watching part two of how the Marble Machine works. This one is particularly fascinating to watch as Molin goes through some of the design mistakes he made as well as how the song was composed!

Isn’t that phenomenal? Wintergatan has some other phenomenal content, so check their channel out when you get the chance!

Creating Inspiration…

These kind of remarkable and audacious projects are such a wonderful reminder of why it’s still an amazing world.

Sometimes I think, “Surely, we must run out of creativity at some point. Right?” Then I am reminded of our endless creative capacity. Creativity is not a subtractive process with each creation detracting from the total number of possibilities out there. In fact, it is an additive process with each new creative endeavor furthering those around it.

This same principle can easily be applied to any place centered around innovation. One medical breakthrough informs the next, each work of literature inspires it’s successors, every new discovery inspires the next great question.

Perhaps the world is only as amazing as we choose to make it. As long as we remain curious and optimistic, we will continue to see inspiration and possibility in the world around us and the work of others.

Stay beautiful & keep laughing!
