What comes to mind when you think of a flower? Probably a beautiful scent, maybe a meadow, or bouquet of brightly colored and beautiful blooms.

What if I were to tell you that there is a strange flower that defies all convention, and unlike a bouquet, gives off a putrid scent that attracts not bumblebees but flies? Well, let us introduce you to the world’s stinkiest flower, amorphophallus titanum, or the corpse flower.

So, why would a flower evolve to smell disgusting?

Well, that’s a question we set out to answer. The phenomenal YouTube channel Skunk Bear takes us on a little journey to check out this strange plant, and lucky for us, smell-o-vision is still a long way off!

Isn’t the world a weird and wonderful place?

There is so much wonder in the strange things on this planet. In fact, the more something makes me ask the question “Why is that?” the more incredible it usually becomes!

I find that nature, in particular, can provide an endless source of awe. Even as a self-proclaimed nature nerd”who grew up thinking nature documentaries were feature films, almost every day I find myself learning something new about this planet.

Just like any other field, the appreciation of nature doesn’t necessarily come naturally. It comes from feeling a little more informed when you walk into the woods, perhaps being able to recognize a plant or bird call, maybe even why a tree is growing the way it is. As kids, we are fortunate for a time to see the world as amazing, and perhaps it is equally as important for the adults shaping those kids’ lives to talk about the world with that same sense of awe and wonder.

If all we needed for inspiration was to walk outside and appreciate a little bit of the natural world, wouldn’t we all be a little happier?

Stay beautiful & keep laughing!
