Creativity: the Mother of Invention!

Have you ever run into someone bursting with so much creativity that you find it difficult to believe your brains are made of the same material?

Inventor Dominic Wilcox is one of these miraculously creative individuals who pushes us all beyond the limits of expectation into an incredible world of wonder, awe, and sometimes laughter.

Do you ever dream up a crazy idea and think, “Has anybody done that?” Chances are Dominic Wilcox has.

He is an inventor, designer, and all around creative genius when it comes to combining fun, innovation, and wonder. It’s hard to express just how incredible and inspiring his work is, but here is the video I saw that sent me on an hours-long rabbit hole into his website

How does he come up with these things?

One of my favorite inventions is his Cereal Serving Head Crane (pictured above), and what a better way to introduce it to you than to watch Stephen Colbert make himself a little snack…

Okay, so it’s not the most practical way to make your breakfast, but it is probably one of the most fun!

Dominic Wilcox isn’t just about inventing things that make you look at the world in a different way, he is also inspiring this power in others. He helped create a project called Inventors!

“The aims of the project are to inspire and encourage children to believe in the power of their imagination, find some great ideas and create some wonderful objects.” 3

Inventors! has a great website full of incredible ideas that children have come up with like a “Ladybird Umbrella” or a “Shady Lamp.” The ideas range from the impractical to the ingenious and everywhere in between, but they are all incredible reminders of the power of children’s imaginations!

I love Dominic’s work and the Inventors Project because they remind us that we still have a child-like creativity within us! If we looked at the world as a place of endless possibility, how could we change the way we innovate?

I usually think of myself as a utilitarian when it comes to design, but sometimes it is the impractical that inspires us most, and the crazy that reminds us that there are still awe-inspiring inventions waiting out there, ready to be created!
